What Lohri means
Lohri is a winter festival celebrated mainly in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Delhi. It marks the harvest of the rabi crops, especially sugarcane and wheat, and the passing of the coldest days of winter.
In the evening families gather around a bonfire, offer til, gur, rewari, peanuts and popcorn to the flames, and sing folk songs about Dulla Bhatti. Dhol beats fill the air as people dance bhangra and gidda late into the night.
